Hi all,
Would like some advice please;recently bought 3 pekin babies that breeder thought were girls,as a summer holiday project for daughters- guess what we have a cockeral.I have got a home for him when he can defend himself against new ladies at friends.
They are 4-6 weeks old at moment and beautiful but do I get 2 newbies now as daughter is being brave but would love long term chicken.
Thanks

yes of course u can get some more babies try to get them the same age and slowly introduce them but them in separte runs i use rabbit run but nearer enough so that they can see each other after a while either put them in same run but be there to keep an eye incase of violence there will propably be a certain amount of peckin or wait till bed time then put them in but be up early incase they start fighting when they wake up

Both but reckon chicks are easier- at least they go to bed when they are told, and they don,t do hormones.Got my first lot of chucks to escape kids and now they want to play.

why dont you see if you can get some 6 weeks old chicks and i would but them together before they get to the age where they will fight, introduce them when they are on the grass or something and maybe give them some maggots or something to take there minds off it as intoducing them when they are older is harder and if you have two get two and then they may not gang up

Yes get another pair as you should always introduce in pairs. That way when the bullying starts, to sort out the pecking order, the new 2 have a friend. Any reputable breeder will only sell in pairs, there are some exceptions, usually if they know you and know that you are capable of introducing a lone bird to the flock.
