Where has that time gone!! My tiny weeny miniature Silkie is three weeks old!! I have just moved him from his little cottage brooder to a mansion one as he was jumping at the sides trying to get out! Now he is 3 weeks old I was wondering:

*Can he have any scraps? anything other than chick crumb?
*Does he still need the heat lamp on constantly? just at night? or not at all?
*Can he go outside for an hour when it's sunny.. in a little run.
*I've been using tissue paper for his bedding. Can I start to use saw dust now? or is anything else better?
*I'm hoping to hatch some new miniature silkies (whites) Oct 3rd. Thjis chick will be 5 weeks old then. Can they go together after a couple of weeks? Or will they fight?

Anything else that I've forgotten?

Thank you :hai:

For now I would leave him on the chick crumb. I would also start bringing him off the heat. You may put him outside but make sure he is warm and safe :)

Wood shavings are fine for him - mine had that right from hatching.

If where you have got the chooks is warm they should 'almost' be off light as they bundle up together and keep each other warm.  It may well only be necessary at night but lessen it gradually.  They should be fine outside on a nice sunny day but ensure they have some shade, and finally as has already been said ensure that they are safe and cannot be got at by predators, particularly cats.  Good Luck with your babies.
